Establishment of Sino-Romanian Agricultural Cooperation Joint Laboratory for LED Smart Plant Factories.
The unveiling ceremony of the Sino-Romanian Agricultural Cooperation Joint Laboratory was held on the 25th at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, Romania.
The laboratory, jointly established by the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, Romania, aims to strengthen practical cooperation and research innovation in agricultural science and technology between the two sides. Wu Kongming, member of the Party Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China and President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Han Chunlin, Chinese Ambassador to Romania, Tatomiir, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Romania, and Kenpeianu, President of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.
Wu Kongming, in his speech, reviewed the long-standing history of agricultural cooperation between China and Romania, emphasizing that the establishment of the joint laboratory marks an important milestone in bilateral scientific cooperation. He stated that the laboratory will serve as a center for agricultural research, talent development, and achievements showcase for both countries, contributing to the development of green agriculture.
Tatomiir expressed that education and research are critical areas for the future development of Romanian agriculture. Through the joint laboratory, Chinese expertise and technology in greenhouse vegetable cultivation will be shared, providing Romanian students with opportunities to learn about the latest breakthroughs in agriculture and horticulture.
Han Chunlin stated in his address that the construction of the joint laboratory is a significant achievement of the “Belt and Road” initiative in science and technology innovation, aiming to promote agricultural technological innovation, deepen exchanges in science and technology and humanities, and jointly improve livelihoods. The demonstrative role of the joint laboratory has had a notable impact in the Central and Eastern European region, providing strong support for cultural exchanges, technology dissemination.
Kenpeianu expressed gratitude to the Chinese partners and looked forward to further deepening cooperation. He mentioned that in the future, both sides will enhance cooperation in digitalization, intelligence, and green sustainable development technologies, laying a solid foundation for agricultural technological innovation in both countries.
After the ceremony, representatives from both sides visited the joint laboratory. The facilities showcased, including energy-saving sunlight greenhouse, LED smart plant factories, and mushroom factories, fully demonstrated the latest applications of Chinese technology in agriculture.
Since 2019, with the support of the governments of China and Romania, the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest have cooperated in constructing the joint laboratory. After five years of close collaboration, the platform construction for Phase I and Phase II of the joint laboratory in Romania has been successfully completed and put into operation. This includes a 500-square-meter sunlight greenhouse, a 50-square-meter artificial light plant factory, a 1000-square-meter double-frame energy-saving greenhouse, and a 75-square-meter mushroom factory.
